Designer and Teacher?

Everyone has said the phrase “When I grow up, I want to be …” at some point in their lives, and if you were anything like I was as a child, the occupation changed week to week. However, one job, in particular, seemed to circulate in my mind over the years. Believe it or not, I did not think of being a graphic designer when I was a kid; instead, my family encouraged me to be a teacher because they always found me playing school.

I was asked what I want to do for a job throughout my school career, what field do I want to work in. These questions brought me back to the “When I grow up, I want to be” phrase, and this led me to sign up for different electives and clubs to discover my true interest was in my passion for Art, more specifically graphic design. After I had this ‘ah ha’ moment, I started my long but exciting journey of striving for a successful career in graphic design.

Fast forward a couple of years, several influential classes, and remarkably impactful people until today, where I am a couple of months away from graduating college with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design. I have loved the challenging journey that decision years ago placed me on and do not regret making that choice one bit. However, I still enjoy teaching when I am giving the opportunity. Surprisingly enough, I have been given that opportunity quite a bit over the years, thanks to my classmates.

This brings me to the reason I am writing this article today. A friend of mine recently asked me how to create some text effects in Adobe After Effects, and while helping her, I realized many people might not know how to make these easy effects. After coming to that conclusion, I decided to take it upon myself to create a two-part video series on How to Create Easy Text Effects in Adobe After Effects.

I created the videos, made a YouTube account, and launched my very first YouTube channel. After partaking in this adventure, I can say I have learned a lot about myself and some of the processes YouTubers go through when creating videos for their channels. I love being able to incorporate teaching into my design career because that means I do not have to give up on that part of my life entirely, and I get to teach about my favorite subject, Art.

Therefore, please feel free to visit my channel, watch my videos, and leave me some positive feedback in the comments section. I would love to hear your opinions about “those who can do, also teaching how to do.”
